Board Swearing In
Lake Intern Repor
The Devils Lake Water Improvement District Board meeting will be held in its offices above Radio Shack Thursday July 2nd at 6:00pm. We are asking all lake front homeowners and interested parties to attend this important meeting.
In it’s last meeting the DLWID Board deferred the SolarBees Project. However, in a recent News Guard article Brian Green DLWID Chair said, “everyone should keep an open mind about all the concerns that have been raised and allow firm data to drive the conversation. A lot of this has the feel of people having a pre-ordained conclusion that they don’t want SolarBees on the lake and coming up with arguments against them,” he said, adding: “I would urge everyone to draw back, take a deep breath and let’s just do some more investigation.”
In last months meeting, John Morris stated that “there is no amount of additional information that would justify putting 20 devices on a recreational lake.” He would like to object to the Board considering the liability and has a difficult time understanding why the Board would even consider it.
Obviously, these two viewpoints are not aligned! Please come to this important meeting to help us re-enforce the message sent to the DLWID board at the June meeting.
The Devils Lake Water Improvement District announced Friday that the June 4th Board meeting will be held in its offices above Radio Shack at 6:00pm and released their agenda. We are asking all lake front homeowners and interested parties to attend this important meeting. In a letter dated May 27th nosolarbees.com has formally asked the Board to abandon the SolarBees® Project. The Board needs to hear this request repeated by each and everyone attending the next board meeting. The goal…put this issue to rest at Thursday night’s meeting. To accomplish this we need you to make an extra effort and find your way to the meeting. It will be crowded and that’s just fine, we’ll make sure a list is circulated and that each person in attendance gets a chance to address the board.
The June 4th meeting agenda contains three items that provide an avenue to speak toward the SolarBees® issue.
2009 – 2010 Budget
If you are financially inclined you may wish to discuss some of the issues concerning SolarBees® in the proposed budget. Many of these issues have been described in our Report From The Budget Meeting. You may also wish to discuss the trouble the District is having funding this project as recent outlined in the Managers Report published for this meeting.
The Devils Lake Plan – Native Vegetation
This promising program championed by DLWID Board Member Jack Strayer begins a process of cooperatively working with lake stakeholders to reintroduce native plants to the lake shore, nearby wetlands and eventually to the lake itself. This program has the goal of restoring a natural balance to the lake without the use of solar powered machines. Unfortunately, all of DLWID’s financial resources are devoted to the SolarBees® proposal. Therefore this promising project has been abandoned. Please encourage the board to embrace this project and abandon SolarBees®.
The Devils Lake Plan – Whole Lake Circulation: SolarBees
This website has provided a great deal of information indicating the presence of twenty SolarBees® on the lake present a major impediment to navigation, safety, and public recreational use of the lake. Furthermore, this places an unnecessary financial burden on the Devil’s Lake Water Improvement District. Pick your favorite point and make your position known to the board. Ask the board to pass a resolution during this current meeting stating they no longer support the placement of SolarBees® on Devils Lake.
The Devils Lake Water Improvement District meeting was tonight. Please leave your thoughts and comments on this post so those who could not attend will know what was said.
The Devils Lake Water Improvement District meets next Thursday May 7, 2009 at 6pm. For specifics on the meeting please download the Agenda and Support items. According to the meeting material created by Paul Robinson and posted on the DLWID website:
“As we may expect some new attendees to the meeting, I intend to go through a slideshow presentation about Whole Lake Circulation. This slideshow has been and currently is available on our website on the Project Page. Additionally complete copies of all of the presentation given to the DLWID Board of Directors from SolarBee representatives (dating back to February 2007) are available online at http://www.DLWID.org.”
Given DLWID’s intention to give a formal presentation on the SolarBees project we are encouraging you to attend and hear more about their intentions. Since SoarBees are an agenda item, it will be a great opportunity to express your opinions on the project.
For the benefit of those who cannot attend, it would be wonderful to receive a brief summary of the impressions of those who do attend this meeting. Either by email at [email protected] or as a comment on the blog. We’ll create a post for that purpose.
The DLWID Budget Committee meeting will be held on Monday, May 11th at 10am. The 2009-2010 DLWID Budgetwas published today and is available for review from the DLWID website. A quick review of the budget reveals proposed funding for the SolarBees project. According to the Budget Committee meeting announcement:
“The public is encourage to attend and will be provided an opportunity to comment.”
The Water District’s offices are located at 820 SE Hwy 101 Suite D, Lincoln City, Oregon 97367, that’s upstairs from Radio Shack.
