Fireworks on Devils Lake

If you haven’t spent the 4th of July on Devils Lake you’ve missed a great way to enjoy the holiday.  After you’ve taken advantage of the many activities available in the surrounding communities it’s time to settle in for a spectacular fireworks display on the lake.  The open vista of the lake provides a great way to enjoy the many family displays that line the lake’s shore.  While some of these display may have used a liberal interpretation of what is a legal firework, there were three residents what sponsored legal, licensed pyrotechnical displays.  They were serious in their attempt entertain those on the lake.  Whether you were nestled by a campfire making somemores, or on a boat floating in the middle of the lake the display’s were colorful and lengthy.  The evening was calm and warm making this one of the most memorable 4th of July’s we’ve had.

Gleneden Beach Parade

Devils Lake Was Well Represented

This was the first time we attended this 4th of July event down in Gleneden Beach.  It was a hoot with homemade floats, local business floats, bikes, bands, veterans, fire trucks all the stuff that makes a great patriotic parade.  Of great interest was how Devils Lake was a prominent part of the event.  Included in the procession were riders from Green Acres Stables on Rock Creek,  the Coast Guard Auxiliary, often seen on the lake, Jim Kusz and the Chicago Fire Boat now used for boater education, and a float occupied by the Devils Lake Red Devils a fixture on the lake some years ago.  Take a look at our photo galley to enjoy the festivities.

Neskowin Parade and BBQ

Residents of Neskowin began their 4th of July morning with a parade around their community ending in a BBQ, book fair, bake sale and award ceremony.  While we missed the parade there were hundreds still milling about at the Hawk Creek wayside when we arrived.  From all accounts is was a great time culminating in a fireworks display in the evening.

No Cows! But Great Parade

Residents of Sand Point kept up a 42 year history with the annual Forth of July-ish neighborhood parade.  Three generations participated in this year’s event featuring bikes, trikes, wagons, and garden carts.  Red, white and blue decor made for a patriotic and festive procession.  To ensure no challenge was made to the residents of Cloverdale no cows were permitted.  Parade organizers were heard to say that the Sand Point parade is likely the only parade circling a two block loop within two miles of the Pacific Ocean, to be found in the continental United States.  Please enjoy our photo gallery of this year’s event and the special video we posted on YouTube.

Hoe Down in Cow Town

Determined to try new July 4th weekend events we attended the Hoe Down in Cow Town today in Cloverdale.  This parade wound through town with a mix of local fare including a colony of bunnies and the infamous Smokey the Bear.  The parade is thought to be unique in the country as it is lead by a cow; this year a Holstein named Clover accompanied by Tillamook County Dairy Princess Ambassador, Kristen Kaste. Take a look at our exclusive photos from this year’s event.
