Rockey Stone Memorial Kilos

A Weekend of High Speed Action

Members of the Columbia Outboard Racing Association will make another attempt at setting world record times in the 2011 Rockey Stone Memorial Kilos Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th.  The race course is set up in a straight line from East Devils Lake State Park to Sand Point; a total length of one “Kilo” or kilometer (5/8 mile).  In a Kilo event each driver competes against the clock, and gets six runs, three in each direction.  The final speed is the average of two consecutive runs in opposite directions. Devils Lake Revival

Carp diem!

This is a terrific article on the Devils Lake Revival and the history that it is trying to recreate. Visit our photo gallery on the Devils Lake Revival for photos of the event.

Devils Lake seizes on its history
By Niki Price • Oregon Coast TODAY

One might be surprised to see the word “devil” and “revival” on the same poster. The fellow with the horns and the tail isn’t usually invited to the old-time church meetings beneath the big tent. But these posters are referring a different kind of devil: the monsters that, according to Native American legend, once lived in Lincoln City’s freshwater lake. The Devils Lake Revival, then, is the resurrection of the annual summer party that was once held on its shores.

That community celebration, a day full of aquatic fun for the whole family, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 27, at Regatta Grounds Park. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lake lovers can ride sailboats, take pontoon boat tours, learn to kayak and stand-up paddleboard, and listen to music by the Schooner Creek String Band. Those who add their addresses to the Devils Lake Water Improvement District’s e-mail list will be eligible for a raft of prizes including hotel stays, restaurant meals and even your very own, fully-equipped kayak. A dozen local agencies will be staffing booths, offering information on conservation activities throughout the region.

All the activities at the Devils Lake Revival will be free, except for the food. The Business for Excellence in Youth committee will be there, selling snacks and lunches to benefit the Backpack Program. Prize sponsors include the ‘D’ Sands Condominium Motel, the Historic Anchor Inn and Mo’ Continue reading

Property Owners Want to Form LID

By: Terry Dillman
Newport News Times

Lincoln City Council members unanimously approved a request from a group of Devils Lake property owners to begin the procedure needed to form a Local Improvement District (LID).

That approval, given during the council’s Feb. 14 regular session, sets in motion the second step of the 16-step process required to form an LID. It authorizes qualified city staff to assess the proposal and generate a written report on all aspects of the project and defining it more clearly, including design and costs.

Most owners of 48 lots near Regatta Park want to form and underwrite the cost of the LID to install a pressurized sewer system for lots along NE Lake Dr., NE Voyage Ave., and NE 15th St., connecting it to the city’s pump station at Regatta Park, and to pave those roadways.

Brian and Leslie Green of NE Lake Dr. initiated the effort in August 2010, sending out a letter to neighbors to determine the amount of support for installing a new, two-inch sewer line and paving the roads. In it, they outlined the proposal and its costs.

“Until recently, the topography of our neighborhood has made connecting to sewer prohibitively expensive,” Green noted. Continue reading
