July is nearing an end and as many of you know it began with a terrific day on July 3rd including a boat parade and a fantastic fireworks display.  We have almost reached our fundraising goal.  Another $1,500 and we have the show completely paid for, your help has been greatly appreciated.  If you were thinking of donating any amount this would be a great time to help us get over the finish line.  Just click this link to contribute. 

Wake the World is planning its first ever event on Devils Lake this summer.

Wake the World (WTW) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. They are a group of boat owners providing watersports opportunities to abandoned, abused and neglected children, as well as for the handicapped and our wounded warriors. WTW began in 2008 with 8 families providing a day on the lake for some residents of a local children's home. WTW is the largest all volunteer organization of its kind, with over 500 volunteered boats world-wide! They strive to make these events as easy as possible to host, and have a network of boat volunteers and sponsors to help support each event. They also provide insurance and liability waivers for every local event. All WTW events are sanctioned and insured through the WWA (World Wakeboard Association).

The first ever Devils Lake Wake the World event will be hosting many kids for a day on the lake. If you are interested in participating with your boat please contact Lance McIlnay. Boats need to be V-Drive, In Board or jet drive.

The DLWID Special Projects Committee has been working hard to create interesting opportunities for all of us who live and play on Devils Lake.  With that in mind they wish to announce their upcoming boat safety presentation at Regatta Park on Saturday, June 23rd from 11:00am to 1:00pm. 

Stop by and see demonstrations relevant to boats, kayaks, jet-ski’s, paddle boards, swimming and more.  You are welcome to bring your watercraft to Regatta Park if you would like a beginning of season inspection.  We’re so grateful that Deputy Lopez from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department has promised to be there to go over the regulations and requirements with all who are interested. A huge thank you to him!

The DLWID Project Committee and members of the DLNA came together on June 5th for their Third Annual Devils Lake Water Improvement District lake roadside clean-up.

East Devils Lake Road was a return target. This year the weather cooperated. Many hours of clean up resulted in sizable amounts of trash. A job well done by a wonderful crew.  Many thanks to North Lincoln Sanitary for their support. 

We recently announced the Fifth Annual Devils Lake Neighborhood Association Fireworks display scheduled Tuesday July 3rd.  We still have a long way to go to fund this year’s display and to that end we would like to invite you to join us on the lake this coming holiday weekend.

The DLNA Fireworks Barge will be parked in front of Steve Brown’s House just east of Regatta Park.  This year one side will be attached to land in Steve’s backyard so you may come by land or by sea.

2018 looks to be a fantastic year for our team!

Our members continue to take active roles in many DLWID committees working to improve Devils Lake.

Everything is set for a great holiday weekend.  We begin with our fifth annual boat parade and complete the night with a spectacular fireworks display.  Safety is the name of the game so please take a look at our boat parade safety plan and our fireworks safety plan to ensure your day is as safe as it is fun.  Here's the details.

The Sewer Committee appointed by the DLWID Board has been meeting on a monthly basis during the past year. The Committee presented a Interim Report to the DLWID Board of Directors in the April meeting.  Follow this link to review the full report now available for download. Progress has been made along the path described by the Committee in their previously published document the Devils Lake Sewer Project Overview, which defines the task ahead. Your own Devils Lake Neighborhood Association is well represented on this committee.

The documents linked above will provide you more detailed information on the topic.  By our estimate, the top three things described in the latest Committee Report are...

1.) The committee is recommending the District commission a study by qualified professionals to provide a preliminary estimate of the total cost of the project including design, construction, operation, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of facilities; and a preliminary estimate of the monthly cost per property owner.

Each of us may see different benefits of the sewer project. The committee feels this cost information will help each of us begin to make our own cost-benefit analysis of this project, and will provide common ground for future discussion, outreach, and input.

The City of Lincoln City took the first significant step toward this goal by commissioning and funding the “DRAFT Devils Lake Sewer System Pre—Design Report” completed in July of 2015. By 2016, the city had authorized and completed construction of a low pressure sewer system for a 60 home/homesite area on the west side of Devils Lake.

While the Committee has utilized the Pre-Design Report which provided preliminary over-all construction cost estimates, the requested new study is meant to provide additional financial information; specifically, the projected financial impact on individual residents.

DLWID has received a 50/50 matching grant from SDAO for up to $4,000 dollars in funding. This funding is for installing cameras around Devils Lake which would also be displayed on dlwid.org. The District is currently evaluating locations and equipment needed for the project. Currently 2-3 camera locations are proposed. Is is a beautiful day at the lake?  Or perhaps you're wondering how bad that storm is; there's nothing like going online and taking a look for yourself.  DLWID hopes this project will increase the visibility of the lake and provide some safety benefits as well.

A lake conservation aeration system project installation is currently being proposed by the Devils Lake Water Improvement District (DLWID). This conservation aeration project will include the direct introduction of oxygen into the deepest (lake center) section of the lake at the interface of lake sediment and lower lake waters. This will be accomplished using a  shore-side fixed air compressor unit and 30 24”x 24” diffusers which will be situated on the lake bottom.

Recently DLWID has obtained all the regulatory approval required for the project. So far DLWID has obtained $10,000 dollars in grant funding from the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution fund to assist with the projected $150,000 total project cost. Additional outside funding continues to be sought by the District. Project bids will be solicited from qualified contractors and a contractor is expected to be chosen by 8/30/2018. The Oregon State "in-water work period" begins September 15, 2018. Construction is proposed to complete by December 15, 2018.  More information is available at www.dlwid.org/projects.
